Bringing some Mediterranean sunshine to Highbury this June, we aredelighted to be welcoming not one winemaker from Greece, but two! Marialena Tsimbidi from Monemvasia Winery and Thras Giantsidis from Ktima Gerovassiliou. This lively duo will be telling us all about their estates and guiding us through some of their wines.

When- Wednesday 12th June -  18:00–18:45
Where- Highbury Vintners in Store

Many of us have blissful memories of balmy evenings on holiday in Greece with a litre carafe of table wine accompanying a dreamy sunset. Yet many of us do not get to try the excellent terroir wines that are produced in Greece. Here is your chance closer to home.

Ktima Gerovassiliou is right up in the North, not far from Thessaloniki. Founded by Vangelis Gerovassiliou in 1981, it nestles on the serene and bountiful slopes of Epanomi. Mainly native varieties, like Assyrtiko and Malagousia, were planted with the first vintage following in 1986. The estate has since attained international acclaim. Today the estate spans 80 hectares, with plantings of eleven different cépages, including Chardonnay, Viognier, Limnio, Mavroudi, and Syrah, all used to produce elegant, expressive wines.

Monemvasia Winery could barely be further away without leaving the Hellenic mainland, finding its niche on the Maleas peninsula in Peloponnesian region of Laconia. Established in 1997 by Yorgos and Elli Tsimbidi, it boasts 30 hectares of organic vineyards, supported by a Mediterranean climate and caressed by sea breezes that moderate the viticultural landscape. Their aim was to focus on exclusively local grape varieties and gain anew recognition for the excellent terroir of Monemvasia which, through their excellent wines, they have achieved.

This is an informal tasting event standing around the tasting island in the shop. Book this slot and then come and try as many of the wines as you like!
