Description

The Fleurie of Château de Beauregard is among the most textured of the Fleurie appellation, reminiscent of the style of the neighbouring Moulin à Vent.

The nose reveals floral aromas such as iris, rose petals and violet, dry hay and red fruit. The palate shows flavours of strawberry and blackcurrant enveloped in a velvety smooth fleshiness, leading to a long satisfying finish.

The wine will enhance roasted lamb, white meat, poultry and of course a 'saucisson de lyon' or some Burgundian delicatessen.

This is a really great example of Fleurie a wine that exemplifies Beaujolais with its smooth perfumed style. Fleurie is considered the most complete and elegant of the 10 Crus of Beaujolais. Total surface area of the Appellation: 840 hectares. Château de Beauregard's 5 hectares of Fleurie are located on the heights of the hamlet of Poncié, one of the Appellation's historic 'Climats'. On these steep, fairly high slopes (300-400 m), with magnificent views over the Saône plain and the Moulin à Vent, the granitic arena of rotten rock, sandy in appearance, rich in silica and iron oxide, constitutes an extraordinary Terroir.

Harvested at the optimal level of maturity the grapes are sorted on a vibrating table. The fermenting and maceration process takes place in the Chateau winery in Fleurie. Traditional winemaking is practised including de-stemming and pigeage (thrusting the cap down) and 6 to 9 days maceration. Then about half of our Fleurie is aged in pièces (225 litre Burgundian oak casks) for about 6 to 8 months.

"Note of pepper, violet. Delicious and vibrant flavours. Sufficiently forward to be enjoyed young."

Allen Meadows, Burghounf (November 2024)

"This wine is made from a plot of 5ha on light pink granite with not much topsoil. An attractive, even, lighter purple, an airy style of Fleurie. I can just see the oak but it is not dominant at this stage of the elevage. Pretty fruit with length. Drink to 2029."
