Aniello Merlot Rio Negro 2014
This is just a delight from start to finish. Dark, opaque, inky looking. The nose is a well-oiled battering ram of sweet black fruits and flowers, perfumed in the extreme, totally hedonistic. The palate doesn't disappoint either, robust yet silky, powerful yet sleek, masses of ripe black cherry fruit with a touch of liquorice and dark chocolate on the end. Merlot is arguably Patagonia's best variety, trendy or not. If Merlot is a guilty pleasure these days, we're all going to jail with this one!
