Maison Ventenac Chateau Ventenac La Réserve de Jeanne Cabardè 2018
Domaine de Ventenac is found about 10km north of Carcassonne in the appellation of Cabardes which, because of its location between the Massif Cantral on one side and the Pyrenees on the other, the region enjoys a climate which is an interesting mix of Mediterranean and Atlantic influences ensuring ideal conditionsfor growing all sorts of grape varieties.
Varietal typicity (using only one or two varieties in each wine) is the main focus of the Domaine de Ventenac range wheras the Chateau Ventenac portfolio wines attempt to reveal the broader terroir. The wines are made in accordance with the AOC (the rules governing wine production within a particular area). The Reserve de Jeanne therefore contains roughly 40% of the Atlantic varieties and 40% Mediterranean varieties, but the blend varies with the vintage.
"A blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Syrah. The 2015 Cabardès Réserve de Jeanne looks to be an incredible wine from this Cabardès estate. Aged in a mix of concrete and barrels (Cabernet Franc), it has tons of ripe black fruits, roasted herbs, flowers and spice characteristics, full-bodied richness, no hard edges and a supple, layered and seamless profile that’s already hard to resist. Despite all the fruit, it has plenty of tannin and good mid-palate density, all suggesting it will evolve gracefully.
91 - 93 Points."
