From the Tikveš Winery in North Macedonia, a land of unspoiled vineyards and optimal grape-growing climate, comes a wine crafted with 100% Kratoshija grapes. This indigenous variety, akin to Italy’s Primitivo, thrives in the well-drained, carbonate-rich clay soils of the Tikveš region’s hillside plots. The winery, steeped in tradition since 1885, employs sustainable practices and green harvesting to concentrate the flavours in the grapes, which are then manually harvested at their peak.
In the winemaking process, the grapes are destemmed, crushed, and fermented in stainless steel tanks, enhancing the fruity aromatics. Following fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic conversion on its lees, which softens the palate. It is then cold-stabilised, filtered, and bottled with minimal sulphur to preserve its quality.
The resulting wine is a vibrant expression of its terroir, offering bright aromas of redcurrants, cherry, and red berries. On the palate, it is textured and mouth-filling, with fruit-forward flavours leading to a deliciously satisfying finish. This Kratoshija is a true reflection of North Macedonia’s winemaking heritage and the Tikveš estate’s commitment to authenticity and character.
