Description

Grecanico from Sicily, fermented in clay amphora and left on its skins for eight months, which gives this wine its deep amber colour. The nose is savoury and layered, with herbal notes and gentle spice leading into bitter orange peel and a hint of dried apricot. Time in clay brings a quiet complexity without any obvious oak or winemaking gloss, so the fruit stays honest and the character comes from the grape and the skins.

On the palate it is supple and rounded, yet grippy at the same time, with fine, drying tannins from the long maceration that give it real structure. Spice and fresh herbs run through the middle, finishing long with lemon oil and a savoury note of fennel. It is a wine that rewards a little time in the glass, and it works best lightly chilled rather than cold. Try it with grilled fish, roast chicken, aubergine dishes or mature hard cheeses.

COS

At the southeastern tip of Sicily, Azienda Agricola COS was founded in 1980 by Giambattista Cilia, Cirino Strano, and Giusto Occhipinti. Inspired by the African-like landscape and ancient traditions, they craft wines that reflect their ancestral lands. With olive, carob, and almond trees surrounding their vineyards, COS embraces natural rhythms and artisanal methods. Each bottle tells a story—of place, passion, and a 3,000-year-old heritage—expressed with humility and a deep respect for the earth.

Sicily

Sicily, Italy’s largest island, is renowned for its diverse and high-quality wines, benefiting from a range of climates and soils. The region is particularly famous for its rich reds, notably from the Nero d’Avola grape, which produces full-bodied wines with deep fruit flavours, spice, and robust structure. It is also celebrated for its elegant Etna wines, made from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, which showcase the volcanic terroir with complex, mineral-driven profiles. On the white side, Grillo and Carricante offer crisp, aromatic wines with citrus and floral notes. Combining ancient winemaking traditions with modern techniques, Sicily provides a captivating and varied wine experience.
