Description

"Château de la Chaize in Beaujolais is a very strong candidate for the most beautiful wine Château in France."
James Suckling

A light ruby hue with violet highlights. The nose is open, revealing juicy red fruits like cherry and raspberry, with a hint of peony. The palate reveals a balanced, medium-bodied texture. The mid-palate is round and supple, with well-managed tannins, finishing with a crispness and subtle spicy notes.

This is a Fleurie to enjoy young, offering delightful harmony and a fresh, flavourful profile from its early youth.

A blend of a selection of cadastral localities in the Fleurie appellation.

Parcel-by-parcel vinification of 100% destemmed Gamay. Maceration took place over 15 days. Pumping over and racking took place, but no punching down. Maturated for 8 months in concrete tank.

"A prototypical Fleurie with a wealth of summer-flower aromas wrapped around a core of silky tannins and mineral freshness on the elegant, medium-bodied palate. Long, structured yet filigree finish. A cuvee of wines from organically grown grapes in various sites. Matured entirely in concrete tanks for eight months before bottling. Drink or hold."
93 points.

Chateau de La Chaize

Built in the 1670s beneath Mont Brouilly, Château de La Chaize is one of Beaujolais’ great historic estates. Under the Gruy family since 2017, its 150 hectares across Brouilly, Côte de Brouilly, Fleurie and Morgon are now certified organic. The 24 lieux-dits are hand harvested and vinified separately, typically with whole bunches and wild yeasts, then aged in old foudres and concrete eggs in a 108-metre cellar. The result is pure, granite-driven Gamay with bright red fruit and fine structure.

Beaujolais

Beaujolais, located just south of Burgundy in eastern France, is a vibrant and diverse wine region best known for its light, juicy reds made from the Gamay grape. Though often associated with the youthful and fruity Beaujolais Nouveau, the region offers far more depth, particularly in its ten crus—villages such as Morgon, Fleurie, and Moulin-à-Vent—where wines show complexity, structure, and ageing potential. With granite-rich soils and a warmer climate than northern Burgundy, Beaujolais produces wines that balance freshness with expressive fruit. Increasingly, growers are embracing sustainable and organic practices, and the region is enjoying renewed attention for its quality, versatility, and approachability.
