Heinrich

Gernot and Heike Heinrich have always embraced innovation. When Gernot took over his family’s winery in 1985, Heinrich was among the first in the region to shift from producing simple whites to crafting high-quality reds, recognising the potential in local varietals like Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, and St. Laurent. Their commitment to biodynamics stems from both a passion for the planet and a belief that it enhances the precision of vineyard and soil expression in their wines. Converting in 2006, they became founding members of Respekt, a certifying body for biodynamic viticulture in Austria. Gernot believes that the best wines truly express their terroir, achievable only when vines thrive in a biologically diverse ecosystem. True to biodynamic principles, Heinrich minimises intervention in the winery, allowing their wines the time they need to naturally achieve balance.

Burgenland

Burgenland, a prominent wine region in eastern Austria, is renowned for its diverse and high-quality wines. Historically, Burgenland was part of Hungary until 1921, and its winemaking traditions reflect a blend of Austrian and Hungarian influences. The region's climate, with hot summers and the moderating influence of Lake Neusiedl, is ideal for both red and white grape varieties.

Burgenland is particularly famous for its red wines, with Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt being the standout grapes, producing full-bodied, spicy wines. It also excels in white wines, with Grüner Veltliner and Welschriesling being notable varieties. Additionally, it is celebrated for its dessert wines, especially the world-class Trockenbeerenauslese made from botrytised grapes near Lake Neusiedl.
