Description

Artadi Vina El Pison comes from a single 2.4 hectare vineyard planted in 1945 on pure limestone. It is the epitome of elegance and sensuality its silky tannins coveying complex flavours minerality delicate spices and a lengthy pure finish. In the words of Artadis Juan Carlos Lopez de Lacalle ÊThe Pison vineyard produces a wine which is a reflection of the knowledge of our ancestors and our passion to keep the spirit of the vineyard alive. Drink from 2018.

"The 2011 Vina El Pison was one of the first single-vineyard wines in Rioja (and in the whole of Spain as a matter of fact) and today it’s a famous vineyard throughout the world. It was planted by Juan Carlos Lopez de Lacalle’s grandfather in 1945. The 2.4 hectare vineyard is located in Laguardia at 480 meters above sea level. The grapes ferment in open wooden vats and the wine ages for 15 months in French oak barrels. The 2011 is unashamedly ripe, with intense aromas of violets and ripe black cherries, verging on the black olives, with plenty of notes of spices. It has a very clear and persistent note of cinnamon and vanilla. It improves greatly with air and time in the glass. The palate reveals some grainy tannins, bright acidity, medium to full-bodied, with an intense, extra-long finish. Drink 2016-2028. 96 Points." (Luis Gutierrez, eRobertparker.com)

Rioja

Rioja, located in northern Spain, is one of the country’s most prestigious and renowned wine regions. The region benefits from a diverse climate with influences from both the Mediterranean and Atlantic, contributing to its varied wine styles.
Famous for its reds, primarily made from Tempranillo, which produce wines known for their depth, rich fruit flavours, and well-integrated oak characteristics, the region also produces notable blends incorporating Garnacha and Graciano. Rioja’s whites, including those from Viura and Malvasía, are celebrated for their freshness, aromatic complexity, and balanced acidity. Historically, Rioja has a winemaking tradition dating back to Roman times. The region gained prominence in the 19th century with the influence of French winemaking techniques, and today it is recognised for its commitment to both traditional and modern practices. Rioja's classification system, including Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva, reflects its dedication to quality and aging potential, making it a benchmark for Spanish wine.
