Description

Brigitte Chevalier of Domaine de Cebene makes truly superb wine by any measure, hand-made, terroir-dictated wine that has been getting better and better now that she has her own custom-built cellar dug out of an isolated hill, rather than having to make wine in cramped rented space in a nearby village. Brigitte is one of the stars of Faugeres, one of the Languedoc’s most distinctive appellations in the hills above Beziers.

"The second vintage of this cuvee designed to showcase the elegance of Faugeres but meant for earlier drinking. From the vines around the cave. Grenache, a bit of Syrah and some Carignan, young and old. a la Venvole is an old French expression meaning a l’improviste or unexpectedly. Certified organic. Brigitte Chevalier describes this as un vin de bistronomie.

"Bright, pale crimson. Chock-full of sweet, youthful fruit. Beautifully juicy, unavoidably swallowable. Tannins are hardly there until the very end, but the schist of Faugeres is. You'd want to drink this with food but you'd have difficulty resisting getting to the bottom of the bottle. Drink 2021 - 2025."

17/20 points.

Domaine de Cebene

Brigitte Chevalier came to Faugères in 2004 to make wine in her own, highly individual way. Brigitte hunted down and bought the parcels that met her objectives, choosing them on the basis of the quality of their terroir and their grape varieties, their exposure and altitude. In a short space of time, her organically farmed estate of 11 hectares has established itself as a leader within its chosen appellation and a highly rated name within South of France winemaking circles.

Languedoc-Roussillon

Languedoc-Roussillon, situated in southern France, is renowned for its diverse and high-quality wines. It benefits from a Mediterranean climate, with abundant sunshine, hot summers, and mild winters, ideal for viticulture. Languedoc-Roussillon produces a wide variety of wines, including robust reds from grape varieties like Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre, as well as crisp, refreshing whites and rosés. The area is also known for its excellent sparkling wines, particularly Crémant de Limoux. The diverse terroir, ranging from coastal plains to mountainous areas, and a mix of traditional and innovative winemaking techniques result in wines with distinctive character and depth. Languedoc-Roussillon is a must-visit for wine enthusiasts seeking a rich and varied wine experience.
