Description

The Newton Johnson Full Stop Rock wine is how we define this jagged landscape on the bottom slopes of Newton Johnson. Robust vines like Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvedre, thrive in this type of rocky soil. We were encouraged to discover bright and invigorating wines with compact black fruit, spice, perfume, and sophisticated tannins.

Newton Johnson Wines

Newton Johnson Vineyards is owned and managed by the Newton Johnson family. The farm is based in the upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley near the seaside town of Hermanus, an hour and a half’s drive out of Cape Town. It is home, in the words of Neal Martin, “to some of the best Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs you will find in the Capelands”.

Hemel-en-Aarde

Hemel-en-Aarde, situated in the Western Cape of South Africa, is a renowned wine region celebrated for its cool climate and exceptional wines. Nestled near Hermanus, it benefits from a maritime influence due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, resulting in moderate temperatures and consistent breezes that are ideal for viticulture.
Hemel-en-Aarde is particularly acclaimed for its premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which thrive in the cool conditions, offering elegance, bright fruit flavours, and refined acidity. The area also produces notable Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc, known for their complexity and balance.
