Description

100% Cabernet Franc

Tasting temperature between 12 and 15°C

Our light and fruity bistronomic wine of the year.

A beautiful Cabernet Franc vinified on the freshness of the grapes of the year, at low temperature, and devatted as soon as possible before the end of fermentation. The must obtained was gently refined under carbon dioxide to preserve all the best primary floral and fruity aromas (blackcurrant, raspberry and violet). An early manual harvest on sandy soil was conducive to a fair balance of acidity/alcohol maturity guaranteeing aromatic freshness.

In the beautiful country of Véron, cradled between the Loire and the Vienne, the Domaine Olga Raffault has passed on its expertise in making its Chinon wines for five generations. Olga Raffault devoted her whole life to these landscapes that she loved so much and always knew how to share her love of wine. At JN Wine, we are proud to be a part of this story.

"The Chinon “la Fraîch” bottling from Sylvie Raffault and her husband, Éric de la Vigerie is made for early drinking. It is made from the younger vines near the winery, planted on alluvial soils down by the Vienne River. The grapes are destemmed, but not crushed, and the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and raised in stainless steel tanks for six months. The 2023 “la Fraîch” comes in at a svelte 12.2 percent octane and delivers a lovely bouquet of dark berries, cassis, tree bark, sandy soil tones, tobacco leaf and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, tangy and complex, with a good core of fruit, fine soil undertow, modest tannins and lovely length and grip on the well balanced finish. This is a very good bottle of Chinon that is certainly approachable out of the blocks, but to my palate, would benefit from a short sojourn in the cellar to further soften up its underlying tannins. Good juice. 2025-2040+."
90 points.

Domaine Olga Raffault

Domaine Olga Raffault has been transmitting its know-how in the production Chinon wines for five generations. Matriarch of the eponymously named estate, Olga Raffault, devoted her whole life to these landscapes that she loved so much, and it was her passion to share the unfettered fruits of her home through naturally made wines. It is this legacy that is carried on today by her granddaughter, Sylvie, who continues to share her grandmother’s cuvées with engaged oenophiles across the world.

Loire Valley

The Loire Valley in France is a prestigious wine region renowned for its diverse wines and picturesque landscapes. Stretching along the Loire River, it benefits from a varied climate and a range of soil types, ideal for viticulture. It is particularly famous for its white wines, including the crisp and mineral-rich Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, and the aromatic Chenin Blanc from Vouvray and Saumur. The area also produces excellent reds, such as the light and fruity Cabernet Franc from Chinon and Bourgueil. Rosé and sparkling wines, like Crémant de Loire, add to the diversity of the region. With its rich winemaking heritage, varied terroirs, and high-quality wines, the Loire Valley offers an exceptional experience for wine enthusiasts seeking both classic and innovative wines.
