Dao

Dão, located in central Portugal, is a historic and esteemed wine region known for its distinctive and elegant wines. Surrounded by the mountains of the Serra da Estrela and Serra do Caramulo, the Dão region benefits from a temperate climate with significant temperature variations between day and night, ideal for viticulture.
Historically, it has been a significant wine-producing area since Roman times, with formal wine cultivation dating back to the 19th century. The area is renowned for its red wines made from indigenous varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Jaen, which produce structured, complex reds with dark fruit flavours, spicy notes, and good ageing potential. It is also known for its aromatic whites, particularly from the Encruzado grape, offering crisp acidity and notes of citrus and mineral.
The combination of its rich history, unique terroir, and a focus on both traditional and modern winemaking techniques makes Dão a distinguished and captivating wine region.
