Description

Tyler Winery focuses exclusively on pinot noir and chardonnay from exceptional sites in the Santa Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley, where marine soils, transverse valleys and cool ocean influence create ideal growing conditions. The approach favours delicacy and balance over extraction, with neutral oak used to let the fruit speak for itself. Around 7,500 cases are produced each year.

"The 2020 Chardonnay La Rinconada Vineyard is a singular wine with exotic expression this vintage. It begins with haunting notions of chaparral and sagebrush, next offering white peaches, spring honey, roasted almonds and matchstick scents. The generous palate balances intellectual intrigue with sheer deliciousness, featuring satiny waves of herbal fruit that continue to evolve over a tremendously long finish. I love this hedonistic expression and would be inclined to drink it on the earlier side." 98 points. Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, December 2022.

Tyler Wine

Justin Tyler Willett began Tyler in 2005 at the age of 24 with a few barrels tucked away in the corner of the Sta. Rita Hills cellar he was working in at the time. It was there, as the assistant winemaker, he honed his approach to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Justin – a champion of old vines – has since engaged the famed historic vineyards of Santa Barbara, including the region-defining Sanford & Benedict, in the Santa Rita Hills.

Santa Barbara County

Santa Barbara County, located on California's Central Coast, is a distinguished wine region known for its exceptional quality and diverse wine offerings. The region benefits from a Mediterranean climate with cool ocean breezes, which help to maintain a balance of warmth and freshness in the vineyards. The county is renowned for its high-quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, particularly from the Santa Maria Valley and Sta. Rita Hills, where the cool coastal influences enhance their complexity and elegance. The region also produces notable Syrah and Grenache, as well as robust reds and expressive whites from various varietals.
Historically, Santa Barbara’s winemaking began in the 18th century with Spanish missionaries, but its modern prominence emerged in the late 20th century.
