Description

Chardonnay from the limestone and marl slopes of the Côtes du Jura, made in a fresh, fruit-led style rather than the oxidative manner the region is famous for. The nose is bright and inviting, with green apple, lemon curd and white peach, lifted by a touch of white flowers and a gentle hazelnut note from time in barrel. There is a subtle savoury edge underneath, a hint of the Jura’s characteristic nuttiness without any of the sherried character.

The palate is crisp and well balanced, with ripe orchard fruit set against a mineral, almost saline backbone and lively acidity that keeps everything taut. Texture is the quiet star here, creamy and gently rounded in the middle before a clean, chalky finish that carries citrus and toasted almond. It is versatile at the table and works well with roast chicken in cream sauce, river fish, shellfish, or Comté and other mature hard cheeses. Serve lightly chilled rather than ice cold to let the nuttiness come through.

Marie-Pierre Chevassu-Fassenet

Marie-Pierre Chevassu-Fassenet is a distinguished winemaker in the Jura region of France, known for her dedication to crafting traditional, terroir-driven wines that reflect the unique character of the region. She manages Domaine de la Touraize, a family estate with a history dating back to 1704, located in the village of Arbois, the heart of Jura’s winemaking tradition.
Marie-Pierre took over the estate alongside her husband, Raphaël Monnier, and together they have revitalized the domaine, focusing on sustainable farming and the preservation of Jura’s indigenous grape varieties. The estate covers approximately 13 hectares, planted with classic Jura varietals such as Savagnin, Chardonnay, Poulsard, Trousseau, and Pinot Noir. The vineyards are cultivated organically, with a strong emphasis on maintaining the health of the soils and promoting biodiversity.

Jura

Jura, a small yet distinctive wine region in eastern France, is celebrated for its unique wines and picturesque landscapes. Nestled between Burgundy and Switzerland, it benefits from a cool climate and varied soils, ideal for producing a diverse range of wines. The region is particularly renowned for its oxidative whites, such as Vin Jaune, made from the Savagnin grape and aged under a layer of yeast, resulting in complex, nutty, and slightly tangy flavours. It also excels in producing fresh and vibrant white wines from Chardonnay, as well as light, earthy reds from Pinot Noir, Trousseau, and Poulsard. The region's sparkling wines, Crémant du Jura, are made using traditional methods and are known for their finesse and elegance. With its blend of traditional winemaking techniques and unique terroirs, Jura offers a fascinating wine experience for enthusiasts seeking distinctive and high-quality wines.
