Description

Made by Marco Marrocco at his Demeter-certified estate in the ancient hill town of Arce in Lazio's Frosinone province, this is a litre of pure pleasure rooted in some of southern Italy's most obscure and compelling indigenous varieties. The ancient grape varieties of the old Kingdom of Naples are at the heart of everything here - Lecinaro, Black Ulivello, Pampanaro and Capolongo among them. They are cultivated according to strict biodynamic principles with soil health as the central concern. Vinified with native yeasts and aged for twelve months in large oak barrels, the wine is bottled unfiltered. On the nose, wild red flowers and fresh berries are lifted by mineral and vegetal hints, while dried plums and sour cherries are framed by spicy notes of chocolate and black pepper on the palate, with a gentle prickle of CO2 adding freshness and lift. Fresh, crunchy and carefree, it is unabashedly thirst-quenching, the litre format making a persuasive case for having it on the table rather than deliberating over it.
