Neromaccarj is made from old-vine Nero d’Avola grapes hand-picked on the old bush-vines of the Maccari singlevineyard, located in the Pachino / Val Di Noto district (widely regarded in Sicily as the finest terroir for Nero d’Avola). The bush-vines are over 30-35 years old, offering naturally low grape yields below 5 tons per hectare; vine density up to 7.000 plants per hectare (organic dry-farming, no irrigation). The soil is a mix of limestone (bedrock) and compact clayey topsoil rich in calcium and mineral nutrients.
Savage, meaty bouquet, projecting affirmative perfumes of ripe black cherry, garrigue and eucalyptus. The sip is layered, yet fresh and with a certain briny quality to it. Firm, powerful tannins. Long finale, building up with lingering flavors of blackberry fruit and juniper. Maccari always exhibits a wild and meaty quality that is typical of this Cru from the Pachino / Val di Noto.
