Description

A fine, crystalline Sauvignon Blanc with flinty notes, sweet lime blossom, fynbos, apricot, and a waxy underlayer. Bracing acidity and lemon drops lift the generous texture and persistence. Grown in Hemel-en-Aarde, the wine blends vivid, mineral fruit from quartz and sandstone soils with the richer texture of clay-grown grapes. A natural approach harmonises these elements, while a touch of oaked Semillon enhances the creamy texture, balancing freshness with complexity and length.

Newton Johnson Wines

Newton Johnson Vineyards is owned and managed by the Newton Johnson family. The farm is based in the upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley near the seaside town of Hermanus, an hour and a half’s drive out of Cape Town. It is home, in the words of Neal Martin, “to some of the best Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs you will find in the Capelands”.

Hemel-en-Aarde

Hemel-en-Aarde, situated in the Western Cape of South Africa, is a renowned wine region celebrated for its cool climate and exceptional wines. Nestled near Hermanus, it benefits from a maritime influence due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, resulting in moderate temperatures and consistent breezes that are ideal for viticulture.
Hemel-en-Aarde is particularly acclaimed for its premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which thrive in the cool conditions, offering elegance, bright fruit flavours, and refined acidity. The area also produces notable Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc, known for their complexity and balance.
