Intense and complex nose with remarkable aromas of fennel, blueberry, black plum and flint, with a touch of fresh cream and toasted nuts. Well-structured and balanced wine between its vibrant acidity and well integrated alcohol, that also shows smooth and silky tannins and a touch of wild berries, clove and liquorice on the back palate. Layered, dense and full-flavoured this superb wine will benefit from several years of cellaring.
Philosopher Roger Scruton in his 2009 book 'I Drink Therefore I am' says of the red wine of Bierzo:
"Thanks to the impoverished and sun-baked soil it is rich in minerals with a blood-dark colour and brooding taste like a bitter-sweet love-song of Lorca. Dominio de Tares was formed in 2000 by a group of local growers including Mario Rico and Amancio Fernández. Their aim was to inspire an upsurge in quality following years of neglect in the area. Amancio Fernández is one of Spain's leading young oenologists he used his experience and local knowledge to identify the best fruit and began working with the area's most serious growers."
92 points Guía Peñín (2025)
"This shows exuberant red fruit that’s floral and crunchy, with lifted aromas and a touch of austerity in the finish. The palate is tight and focused, medium- to full-bodied, with a firm structure that gives it tension and length. A blend of mencia, alicante bouschet and other traditional local varieties. Drink now or hold."
