Description

"The 2020 Pintas is a field blend (over 40 grapes, but the dominant grapes are Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional) from old vines (around 90 years) aged for 20 months in 20% new French oak. It comes in at 14.4% alcohol. This may have been a tougher vintage in many respects, but it was a small crop harvested quickly and early. This multilayered Pintas is ripe and darkly flavored but never over the top and rather fresh. There's plenty of power on the finish too, and it simply grips the palate. This needs to be socked away for a few years. I tasted the final blend and out of barrel, but it was not yet bottled, about three weeks away. Plan on cellaring it. It should age for 30 years, more or less. Drink to 2048."
95 - 97 points. Mark Squires, The Wine Advocate (July 2022)

A special vineyard of over 90 years old - the first the couple acquired in 2001 and named after their dear family dog of the same name ('Pintas' means 'Spots' in English).

This wine is a field blend of over 40 indigenous grape varieties. Hand harvested graoes, destemmeed and foot trodden in stone lagares during the fermentation process of 10 days. Ageing and malolactic conversion took place in French oak barrels (20% new) over 20 months.

Jorge Serôdio Borges is the 5th generation of a long line of wine producers and winery owners. Therefore, in 2009 Sandra and Jorge acquired “Quinta da Manoella”, an estate with a history that dates back to 1838.

The Quinta da Manoella vineyards are over a hundred years old, bordered on both sides by young vineyards that are 30 years old, some even more recent. Quinta da Manoella Vinhas Velhas was immediately recognized as one of the greatest wines of Douro.

Wine & Soul

Jorge and Sandra’s adventure began in 2001. They started with no vineyards and no wine, but they fully devoted themselves to a tireless search for exceptional vines in the Pinhão Valley, the historic heart of great Port wines. What used to be an old Port lodge is now a reflection of the Douro’s history and tradition. Its grandeur, breadth and richness of the region are reflected in using grapes from an ancient vine growing more than 40 mixed grape varieties.

Douro Valley

The Douro Valley, located in northern Portugal, is a historic and renowned wine region known for its exceptional Port and table wines. Recognised as one of the oldest demarcated wine regions in the world, it was officially regulated in 1756. The valley's dramatic landscape, characterised by steep terraced vineyards along the Douro River, creates a unique terroir that is ideal for viticulture.
The area is particularly famous for its Port wines, which range from rich and robust Vintage Ports to smooth and sweet Tawny Ports, crafted from indigenous grapes like Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz. It also produces high-quality red and white table wines, with rich, full-bodied reds and aromatic whites from local varieties such as Touriga Franca and Viosinho. The combination of historical winemaking traditions and modern practices makes the Douro Valley a compelling and storied wine region.
