Description

The third wine of the estate and one produced since 2003, Le Difese is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats and it is then aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels and for a further three months in the bottle. The younger addition to the range of Tenuta San Guido is a wine that is distinguished by generous fruit, lively freshness and joyous drinkability.

A firecracker of a release, marked by an open, aromatic nose redolent of red cherries, wild strawberries, thyme and dried flowers. A mineral, lively freshness frames a joyful, supple palate that burst with juicy notes of red summer berries, red apple skin and blood orange. A lovely, charming wine that is as enchanting as it is drinkable.

Tenuta San Guido

Located in the Bolgheri area of Tuscany, Tenuta San Guido’s name derives from the Saint Guido della Gherardesca, an ancestor of Count Giuseppe della Gherardesca, who founded the estate. In 1940s the Count's son-in-law Mario, decided to produce a Bordeaux-style wine and began experimenting with French grape varieties, as opposed to the local Italian ones.
By 1968, the vineyard was orientated towards the exclusive use of Cabernet Sauvignon and the famous wine Sassicaia was born. Within a few years it achieved international acclaim as one of the best red wines in the world, and in 1994 was granted its own DOC, the only wine from a single estate in Italy to enjoy such a privilege.
