The wines of Pyramid Valley are born in the dramatic limestone and clay derived soils and slopes of the estate farm in Waikari, North Canterbury. This high-altitude site that is home to some of the most characterful Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines in the world.
Snake’s Tongue is Pyramid Valley’s single-parcel Pinot Noir, drawn from a 0.7-hectare plot of Abel clone planted in 2007 in Central Otago’s Lowburn sub-region. The vines grow organically on loess and deep silts laced with lime, in a sunny corner of the vineyard that gives the wine real power and immediacy. Expect wild cherry, black plum and clove, with thyme, forest floor and a flicker of game beneath. The palate is fleshy and deep yet elegant, its silky fruit gliding over fine, chalky tannins to a long, savoury finish. Serious, seductive Pinot Noir.
