Description

A clear, attractive raspberry hue in the glass, this is a vivacious, low-intervention field blend from the steep schist slopes of the Douro, made by the young and talented António Mendes with a light touch that is very much at odds with the region's traditionally powerful reputation. The nose is dominated by bright red fruits, particularly strawberry, raspberry and gooseberry, with a zippy acidity and fresh notes of cranberry and rhubarb adding further lift and energy. Spontaneous fermentation in concrete and inox tanks, with some whole-bunch inclusion, gives the wine a natural freshness and purity, while soft, rustic tannins and a lively acidity keep things buoyant and alive. The Crazy's character combines lightness and youth for a genuinely refreshing red that demands to be drunk with abandon, ideally slightly chilled.
