This Saint-Joseph wine, made from 100% syrah displays a deep red colour and ruby glints, has a generous, lifted, black and red fruit aroma. Cherry and raspberry flavours blend to give an excellent taste, the oak plays a background role and the supple tannins are present yet silky.
It goes perfectly well with a roast leg of lamb or a rack of lamb.
Andre Perret's passion for vines made this Biology graduate return to this village, where he succeeded his father in 1982. The farmland, then mainly occupied by fruit-trees, was replanted with vine-stocks and extended to 13 hectares.
Andre is willing to preserve terroir and nature, even if this involves difficulties such as terrace cultivation of the vines on steep hillsides. He is also keen to avoid systematic treatments of his vines; pesticides are only used as and when required. Yields are controlled too, in order to achieve the quality and authenticity requirements that he himself has fixed.
"Tasted blind. A ripe, dark, earthy palate with smoky and gamey notes. Good freshness beneath the fruit, which shows raspberry and damson notes. Tight tannin frame that should integrate in time. Drink to 2032.
16+ points."
