Named after the old land registry road that winds through Gayda's terraced vineyards in the village of Brugairolles, the Chemin de Moscou 2022 is a seriously impressive southern French blend of Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault from organically farmed old vines. Deep, vibrant ruby with violet hints, the nose is both intense and refined, leading with wild blackberry, spiced cherry and black pepper before floral notes of iris and violet lift the whole thing into something more ethereal. The palate is suave and generous, with blackcurrant, cocoa and a fresh herbal undercurrent giving way to chiselled, powdery tannins and a long, elegant finish. The 21-month élevage across new Burgundy barrels, demi-muids and foudres is handled with a deft touch, adding structure and complexity without ever overwhelming the fruit. One of the finest expressions this estate has produced, and a wine that rewards both drinking now and a few more years in the cellar.
