Drawn from select parcels on the Monte Bello estate high in the Santa Cruz Mountains, this is Ridge's more accessible counterpart to the flagship bottling, and 2022 delivered something rather special. A third consecutive drought year brought low yields and concentrated, small berries, and it shows. The nose opens with blackcurrant, pencil shavings and a hint of tobacco from 17 months in American oak, while the palate is taut and mineral, with firm but polished tannins and genuine freshness keeping everything in check. A wine that rewards patience, but already showing real class.
