Description

Pheasant’s Tears was born out of a love of authentic tradition, and culture and endless creativity. This Saperavi is fermented and aged in qvevri, a unique Georgian vessel used to ferment and store wine. This gives the wine real character and lets the quality of the grapes shine through. It is packed full of fruit with savoury layers weaved through leading to a full, smooth finish. Highly unusual but truly authentic, this is good natural wine to try.

Pheasant's Tears

Founded in 2007 by American artist and winemaker John Wurdeman and Georgian farmer Gela Patalishvili, Pheasant's Tears has become a leading name in the natural wine movement, known for producing wines that are deeply rooted in the history and culture of Georgia, the birthplace of wine.
Georgia is home to an 8,000-year-old winemaking tradition, and Pheasant's Tears is committed to honoring this heritage by using traditional methods, particularly the ancient qvevri technique. Qvevri are large clay vessels buried underground, where the wine ferments and ages naturally, often on its skins, seeds, and stems. This method produces wines with remarkable depth, structure, and a unique character that reflects the Georgian terroir.

Kakheti

Kakheti, located in eastern Georgia, is the country's most renowned wine region, celebrated for its ancient winemaking traditions and diverse, high-quality wines. It benefits from a continental climate with hot summers and mild winters, and its fertile soils are ideal for viticulture. Kakheti is particularly famous for its traditional Qvevri wines, produced in clay vessels buried underground, which impart unique flavors and complexity. The region's standout grape varieties include Saperavi, known for its deep, robust reds, and Rkatsiteli, which produces aromatic, crisp whites. With its combination of ancient techniques and modern innovations, Kakheti offers a captivating wine experience, showcasing the rich heritage and distinctive wines of Georgia.
