Description

Palomino as we all well know was used mainly to produce sherry and sherry-styled wines in South Africa. Very few of these vineyards remain and this Brakkuil vineyard is one of them. A rare bottling of this varietal shows the vineyard and varietal very well. The wine is pure, delicate, vinous, and savoury/salty to the taste.

"Called "salt of the earth" because it comes from the same coastal, sand and limestone vineyard as Eben Sadie's Skerpioen, this is arguably the southern hemisphere's greatest Palomino. Light and pithy, with sea salt and citrus flavours, wonderful purity and tension and a long, tapering finish. Drink 2022-27. 94 points." (Tim Atkin MW, South Africa Report 2021)

AA Badenhorst

AA Badenhorst Family Wines are grown, made and matured on Kalmoesfontein farm in the Swartland appellation of South Africa. The property is owned by the “dynamic and good-looking cousins” Hein and Adi Badenhorst. Their fathers were born and farmed together in Constantia. The cousins have restored a neglected cellar on the farm that was last used in the 1930′s. They now proudly farm together, practice biological farming and make natural wines in the traditional manner.

Swartland

Swartland, located in South Africa's Western Cape, is a dynamic wine region celebrated for its robust and distinctive wines. Its Mediterranean climate, marked by hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters, combined with its varied soil types, creates ideal conditions for viticulture.
The area is renowned for its powerful reds, particularly from Syrah and Grenache, which exhibit bold fruit flavours, spice, and a characteristic earthiness. It also excels in producing expressive Chenin Blancs, known for their richness, complexity, and vibrant acidity.
