Description

Vibrant and intense grapefruit, white florals, hazlenut and savoury musk deliver a complex aromatic profile. Layered flavours of grapefruit, lemon zest and hazlenut combine with a pure and vibrant acid line delivering vitality, persistence and a lengthy finish.

The hand-picked Chardonnay was gently whole-bunch pressed with the unsettled free-run juice filling one 25-hectolitre botte with the remainder going into small French oak puncheons. It was slowly fermented on full solids using indigenous yeast before going to natural malolactic fermentation and maturing on lees for a total of 15 months to gain richness and complexity. The wine was then gently racked and bottled without filtration.

Blank Canvas

Blank Canvas is the creation of Matt Thompson and Sophie Parker-Thompson, Master of Science and Master of Wine respectively. They craft fine New Zealand wine from their home in Marlborough. They celebrate nine exceptional, sustainable single vineyards throughout Marlborough, Hawke's Bay and Central Otago chosen because of their suitability for the variety they're nurturing, with the right soil, microclimate and innate high quality, and grown by people who have a fervent desire for their vineyard to grow great wine. As the name suggestions, every vineyard, variety and vintage is approached as if it is a blank canvas.
