Description

Pale gold in the glass, this is Savagnin in its ouillé, or topped-up, style, meaning the oxidative character of the Jura's most idiosyncratic white grape is kept firmly in check, allowing the fruit and spice to take centre stage. From a tiny plot of black and iridescent marl soils between the villages of Buvilly and Grozon, with a favourable east and southeast exposure, the terroir lends the wine a precision and minerality that underpins everything. The nose is immediately arresting, leading with a flood of baking spice and cracked pepper alongside ripe yellow fruit, a combination that is distinctly and compellingly the work of Cédric. On the palate, the wine is nicely full in both feel and flavour, the used ex-Bordeaux blanc barrels having added a gentle, seamless texture without imposing oak character, before that signature spice returns to shape the mid-palate with real definition. A lively, well-judged acid line on the finish ties everything together cleanly and leaves the palate refreshed and eager for more. A thoroughly alluring expression of one of France's most singular varieties.
