Description

Field blend of old vines planted in the village of ‘La Aguilera’ at an average of 880 metres over red clay and limestone soils in the Burgos province. This wine has been made with some of the oldest vines in La Aguilera village, more than 100 years old vineyards, some of them even pre-phylloxera.

Elevage takes place in a cool cellar at a very slow rate, spending 35 months in old barrels before release. The resulting wine is incredibly refined, but still with true Ribera del Duero character. This wine sees no fining, filtration or clarification.

Viticulture is certified organic. No herbicides, pesticides nor synthetic products are used. The vineyards are not irrigated and are worked as little as possible to encourage the growth of natural cover crops.

Dominio del Aguila

Jorge Monzón is redefining Ribera del Duero, crafting wines that stand apart for their elegance, restraint, and deep expression of terroir. In 2010, he and his partner Isabel Rodero founded Dominio del Águila in La Aguilera, bringing Jorge’s impressive experience to this relatively new venture. After studying viticulture in Bordeaux and Burgundy, Jorge gained valuable experience at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Vega Sicilia. While at Bodegas Arzuaga-Navarro, he discovered century-old vineyards, which he now farms organically and biodynamically. These unique sites produce complex, age-worthy wines that beautifully blend tradition with modern expertise.

Ribera del Duero

Ribera del Duero is a prestigious wine region located in northern Spain, renowned for its exceptional red wines, primarily made from the Tempranillo grape, locally known as Tinta del País or Tinto Fino. The region spans the upper valley of the Duero River and benefits from a continental climate with hot, dry summers and harsh winters, which contribute to the unique character of its wines. The combination of high altitude, limestone-rich soils, and significant temperature variations between day and night enhances the concentration and complexity of the grapes. Ribera del Duero is home to some of Spain’s most celebrated wineries, including Vega Sicilia and Dominio de Pingus, which produce bold, full-bodied wines with rich flavours of dark fruit, spices, and a distinct earthy quality. Established as a Denomination of Origin (DO) in 1982, the region has quickly become synonymous with high-quality, age-worthy wines that compete on the world stage.
