La Stoppa is a historic winery located in the Colli Piacentini region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Founded in the late 19th century, the estate has been under the stewardship of Elena Pantaleoni since the 1990s, who, along with winemaker Giulio Armani, has transformed La Stoppa into one of Italy’s leading natural wine producers. The estate is known for its deep respect for tradition, commitment to organic farming, and focus on producing wines that authentically express the unique terroir of the region.
La Stoppa spans approximately 58 hectares, with around 30 hectares dedicated to vineyards, while the rest are covered in woods, enhancing biodiversity. The vineyards are planted with indigenous Italian varietals such as Barbera, Bonarda, and Malvasia di Candia, which thrive in the region’s clay and limestone soils. Elena Pantaleoni made a conscious decision to uproot non-native grape varieties and replant the estate with traditional local varietals, aligning the winery more closely with the region’s winemaking heritage.
