A pale ruby in the glass, this is a beguiling co-fermentation of old-vine Tempranillo and the indigenous white variety Malvar, grown on biodynamically farmed vineyards perched at 780 metres in the hills east of Madrid. The nose is of medium intensity and decidedly floral, with fresh red fruits and a mineral, crushed-stone quality. On the palate there is ripe blackcurrant and a spicy, earthy element, with hints of tobacco and subtle leather. Floral raspberry and cherry notes weave through, with a touch of cola and spice, before a bright, fresh finish. Medium-bodied with medium-high acidity and light tannins, this is a wine of real purity and character, reflecting Marc Isart's determination to revive the kind of honest, thirst-quenching wines that the people of the Madrid countryside once made from their ancient vines.
