Description

The 2018 Reserve Red is a 100% Syrah. About a third of the grapes were whole clusters crushed by foot and the remainder was bunch selected and crushed and de-stemmed in concrete vats. Spontaneous fermentation with minimal punch downs and pump overs was the way to go for this vintage. The wine was pressed off the skins and the juice racked into 2nd fill French barrique for secondary fermentation. Elevage is for a total of 20months in oak with a single rack and return after 6months.

"Reyneke makes beautifully crafted wines from its biodynamic farm, and this is a great success. There’s a cranberry crunch to the blackberry fruit and a whiff of white pepper. It has a lovely sense of vibrancy and feels harmonious already. A little toastiness adds length and complexity. Enlivening and pure, with great freshness and a searching, tensile quality."

Reyneke Wines

Back when the Reyneke farm first began as ‘Uitzicht’ in1863, there were no chemicals or technological advancements. Just the land and nature. Reyneke continue with these principles with their biodynamic winemaking practices. Overlooking Stellenbosch and False bay, the best sites are planted with vines and the rest of the Reyneke land is pasture and pockets of wilderness. The Reyneke farm is independently certified, which honestly and transparently says that they are practicing what they preach.

Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch, located in South Africa’s Western Cape, is one of the country’s most renowned wine regions, celebrated for its premium wines and prestigious vineyards. It benefits from a Mediterranean climate, with warm days and cool nights, perfect for cultivating high-quality grapes.
The area is particularly known for its robust reds, including Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which exhibit deep fruit flavours and complex, well-structured profiles. The whites, such as Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc, are noted for their crisp acidity and vibrant fruit character.
Historically, Stellenbosch is significant as it was one of the first areas settled by Dutch colonists in the late 17th century. The wine industry in Stellenbosch began to develop in the 19th century, and today, it remains a cornerstone of South Africa’s wine heritage, blending traditional techniques with modern innovation to produce exceptional wines.
