Description

Stonewell is Peter Lehmann’s flagship Shiraz, first made in 1987 from the tiny, intensely flavoured berries Peter called his “Little Black Jewels”. The fruit comes from low-yielding Barossa vineyards farmed by a handful of the estate’s long-standing growers, and 2018 was a near-perfect growing season. Expect blackberry, plum and black cherry on the nose, with dark chocolate, liquorice, cracked pepper and a gentle lift of smoky oak. The palate is full-bodied and plush, its concentrated dark fruit held in shape by firm, fine-grained tannins and carried through to a long, savoury finish. Drinking beautifully now but with plenty left in the tank, it is made for slow-roasted lamb or a chargrilled ribeye.

Peter Lehmann

In the late 1970s, Peter Lehmann saved the Barossa grape growers during a severe surplus crisis by creating ‘The Futures’ wine, pledging to pay growers from sales. His integrity and vision united the community, preserving the region’s future. Today, Peter Lehmann Wines honour this legacy, crafting bold, generous wines rooted in lasting relationships with family growers across Barossa—reflecting the character and spirit of the man who became a true Barossa icon.
