Description

Owned by the Delon family of Château Léoville Las Cases, Potensac sits in the northern Médoc near Ordonnac and has long been one of the appellation’s benchmark estates, made with the same care and precision as its Saint-Julien stablemate. The blend is built around Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a notable proportion of Cabernet Franc adding freshness and lift.

The colour is a deep, youthful purple-crimson with barely any sign of development at the rim. The nose shows ripe blackcurrant, black cherry and blackberry, with violet, cedar, graphite and a touch of sweet spice and tobacco leaf from the oak. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with the generous, ripe fruit of the 2020 vintage balanced by lively acidity. The tannins are fine-grained and plentiful but already well integrated, giving the wine a polished, structured frame. The finish is long and fresh, with cassis and a cool, gravelly minerality.

Domaines Delon

Domaines Delon, led by Jean-Hubert Delon, is the family estate behind Léoville Las Cases, the Saint-Julien second growth whose walled Grand Enclos borders Latour. The portfolio also includes Clos du Marquis, Château Potensac in the Médoc and Pomerol's Château Nenin. Winemaking is meticulous, with parcel-by-parcel vinification, ruthless selection and long maceration in temperature-controlled vats. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the grand vin, aged around eighteen months in largely new French oak. The wines are renowned for structure, precision and exceptional ageing potential.

Bordeaux

Bordeaux, one of the most prestigious wine regions in the world, is located in southwestern France and is celebrated for its exceptional wines. It benefits from a temperate maritime climate, influenced by the nearby Atlantic Ocean, providing ideal conditions for viticulture. It is particularly renowned for its red wines, primarily blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, offering rich, complex flavours and excellent ageing potential. Notable sub-regions include Médoc, Saint-Émilion, and Pomerol. Bordeaux also produces exquisite white wines, both dry, from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, and sweet, from the Sauternes and Barsac areas. The region's unique terroir, combined with centuries-old winemaking traditions, results in wines of unparalleled quality and distinction. Bordeaux remains a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts seeking world-class wines and a rich viticultural heritage.
