This bottling is a tribute to his Romain Roche's father. Marcel Roche is a Côtes du Rhône made from a parcel of 70-year-old Grenache vines located in the terroir of Cairanne known locally as the "garrigue" - the plateau of vines south of the village sits on red clay and limestone soils covered with galets and gravel. This warm and herb-scented terroir provides much of the muscle and richness of Cairanne, but Romain treats this selection of fruit meticulously, preferring a gentle maceration to entice the suppleness and finesse of which these vines are capable. The wines are aged for 6 months in concrete tanks and neutral oak, the balance between oak and fruit always being judicious.
