Description

100% Pinot Noir sourced from the Frauenberg vineyard in Alsace, this négociant cuvée from Anne and Jean-François Ganevat is hand harvested from organically grown vines and vinified naturally by cool, semi-carbonic maceration before ageing in seasoned foudres. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and bottled without fining, filtration or added sulphur, it shows a lovely ruby hue with a nose of cherry, wild raspberry and pomegranate, lifted by subtle spice and floral notes. The palate is fine and mineral, with silky tannins, fresh acidity and a lovely aromatic length, making it a highly drinkable, versatile red. Serve with a slight chill alongside roast chicken, charcuterie or a soft cheese such as Saint Nectaire, giving it a little decanting or aeration to show its best.

Jean Francois Ganevat

Jean-François Ganevat is a celebrated winemaker from the Jura region of France, renowned for his meticulous approach to natural winemaking and his ability to produce wines of extraordinary complexity and character. Coming from a family of vignerons with a winemaking tradition dating back to the 17th century, Jean-François took over the family estate in 1998 after working for a decade in Burgundy, bringing with him a deep respect for traditional methods and a commitment to innovation.
The Ganevat estate, located in the small village of La Combe, near Rotalier, spans around 13 hectares of vineyards, where Jean-François cultivates a diverse range of grape varieties, including the Jura classics Savagnin, Chardonnay, Poulsard, and Trousseau, as well as a collection of rare, old indigenous varieties. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically, a practice Ganevat has adhered to since 2006, ensuring the utmost respect for the environment and the natural rhythms of the vineyard.

Jura

Jura, a small yet distinctive wine region in eastern France, is celebrated for its unique wines and picturesque landscapes. Nestled between Burgundy and Switzerland, it benefits from a cool climate and varied soils, ideal for producing a diverse range of wines. The region is particularly renowned for its oxidative whites, such as Vin Jaune, made from the Savagnin grape and aged under a layer of yeast, resulting in complex, nutty, and slightly tangy flavours. It also excels in producing fresh and vibrant white wines from Chardonnay, as well as light, earthy reds from Pinot Noir, Trousseau, and Poulsard. The region's sparkling wines, Crémant du Jura, are made using traditional methods and are known for their finesse and elegance. With its blend of traditional winemaking techniques and unique terroirs, Jura offers a fascinating wine experience for enthusiasts seeking distinctive and high-quality wines.
