Description

Bright straw yellow in colour. The nose boasts notes of white and yellow-fleshed fruit, floral aromas of mimosas and chamomile, mineral aromas, and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, the wine is fresh and tangy with pleasant fruit and a long, invigorating finale heightened by lively citrus notes.

*Commenting on a previous vintage* "Ripe green fruits, sour-fresh citrus on the palate, quite broad in the mouth. Impressive depth of fruit and a long nutty green-fruited finish. -16.5 Points." Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com (April 2023)

100% Grillo fermented and matured in stainless steel for six months. The wine spends a further two months in bottle before release.

Le Casematte

Founded in 2008 by Gianfranco Sabbatino and ex footballer Andrea Barzagli, Le Casematte is situated within the Messina Province of Sicily. They currently have 14 hectares under vine, overlooking the Straight of Messina, the stretch of sea that separates Calabria from Sicilia. The winery owes its name to the presence of two pillboxes situated in the vineyard that date back to WW2. The winery exercises organic farming and limit the use of new oak to obtain freshness in their wines.

Sicily

Sicily, Italy’s largest island, is renowned for its diverse and high-quality wines, benefiting from a range of climates and soils. The region is particularly famous for its rich reds, notably from the Nero d’Avola grape, which produces full-bodied wines with deep fruit flavours, spice, and robust structure. It is also celebrated for its elegant Etna wines, made from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, which showcase the volcanic terroir with complex, mineral-driven profiles. On the white side, Grillo and Carricante offer crisp, aromatic wines with citrus and floral notes. Combining ancient winemaking traditions with modern techniques, Sicily provides a captivating and varied wine experience.
