Description

The Chinon “la Fraîch” from Sylvie Raffault and Éric de la Vigerie is crafted for early drinking. Made from young vines on alluvial soils by the Vienne River, it’s fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in stainless steel. On the palate, it offers dark berries, cassis, tobacco leaf, and smoky notes. Bright, tangy, and complex, it has fine tannins and good length. Delicious now, but a short cellaring would enhance its elegance.

Domaine Olga Raffault

Domaine Olga Raffault has been transmitting its know-how in the production Chinon wines for five generations. Matriarch of the eponymously named estate, Olga Raffault, devoted her whole life to these landscapes that she loved so much, and it was her passion to share the unfettered fruits of her home through naturally made wines. It is this legacy that is carried on today by her granddaughter, Sylvie, who continues to share her grandmother’s cuvées with engaged oenophiles across the world.

Stretching along the Loire River, it benefits from a varied climate and a range of soil types, ideal for viticulture. It is particularly famous for its white wines, including the crisp and mineral-rich Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, and the aromatic Chenin Blanc from Vouvray and Saumur. The area also produces excellent reds, such as the light and fruity Cabernet Franc from Chinon and Bourgueil. Rosé and sparkling wines, like Crémant de Loire, add to the diversity of the region. With its rich winemaking heritage, varied terroirs, and high-quality wines, the Loire Valley offers an exceptional experience for wine enthusiasts seeking both classic and innovative wines.
