Description

"A well-composed, textural, balanced and layered red with aromas of cherries, strawberries, Mediterranean herbs, baking spices, bark and hints of undergrowth. It's medium-bodied with finely grained tannins and a refined texture. Focused and precise, with a flavourful and elegant finish. Drink or hold."
93 Points. James Suckling, jamessuckling.com (July 2024)

Located in the heart of the Massif de Fontfroide in Languedoc, a terroir atypical for its freshness, the Domaine d'Aussières has been working for twenty years to develop a vineyard of the future, in the heart of a wild massif. The adventure began with Baron Eric de Rothschild in 1999 and is now continued by Saskia de Rothschild and a talented technical team.

Château d'Aussières, certified organic since the 2022 vintage, is made from vines planted at the top of the sandy sandstone slopes. The wine is mainly a blend of Syrah and Mourvèdre, with some Grenache and Carignan.

Château d'Aussières

Aussières, first noted in 97 AD, supplied wine to Rome before Emperor Domitius uprooted its vines. Revived by Fontfroide Abbey in 1065 and later managed by Count Daru under Napoleon, it prospered until declining in the 1950s. In 1999, Baron Éric de Rothschild restored the estate, now a 167-hectare vineyard in the Corbières hills. Tradition, terroir, and community continue to shape its vibrant winemaking spirit.

Languedoc-Roussillon
