The Chardonnay ‘Locura 1’ is sourced from the region of Malleco, one of the southernmost wine-growing sub-regions in Chile. Although once considered too southerly for winemaking, the cold conditions and sandy and rocky soils have increasingly attracted top producers looking to make expressive, cool-climate wines with steely acidity.

This wine is sourced from the Latuffa vineyard in Malleco, Traiguén, an emerging and exciting wine region in Chile. Malleco Valley, Chile's most southerly established wine region at latitude 38°S, has less than 40 hectares under vine, primarily around Traiguén. The region's cold climate, high annual rainfall of 1300 mm, and significant diurnal temperature variation create ideal conditions for producing wines with fresh acidity and concentrated flavours. Since its planting in 2010, the Latuffa vineyard has practised biodynamic methods and dry farming. The volcanic tuff, ash soils, and low trellis systems contribute to the wine's unique character. These well-drained volcanic soils force the vines to work harder for hydration, resulting in less foliage and lower yields. This stress on the vines leads to wines with more concentrated flavours and excellent structure.

The grapes underwent a direct press, followed by fermentation with carefully selected wild yeasts. The wine was then aged on the fine lees for 9 months in stainless steel tanks, without any stirring or racking, until bottling. This method helps preserve the wine's fresh and vibrant character. No malolactic fermentation was performed, maintaining the wine's natural acidity and crispness.
