An opaque, deep ruby red with a virtually impenetrable core, the Angelorum opens with a beautifully complex nose of cherries preserved in spirit, cooked red fruit, dried fig and raisin, with beguiling undertones of chestnut, dark chocolate and cold smoke that speak directly to the extended appassimento process. On the palate, Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara deliver a rich, luscious sweetness that never tips into heaviness, thanks to a firm line of acidity cutting through the concentrated fruit and lifting the finish; there is a pleasing grip to the tannins alongside notes of sweet spice, pecan and a gentle balsamic thread. This is Recioto in its most traditional form, aged for a year in Slavonian oak, and it carries the weight of Valpolicella's ancient winemaking heritage with considerable elegance. Serve at around 14°C alongside gorgonzola, a dark chocolate tart or a slice of panettone.
