English fizz has come of age. The chalk and clay soils of the South East, a cool climate and long, slow ripening give our grapes the bright acidity and finesse that great sparkling wine depends on, and a new generation of growers is making the most of it.
Most of the wines here are made by the traditional method, with a second fermentation in bottle and time spent resting on the lees. That extended ageing builds the fine bubbles and the toasty, brioche notes that sit so well alongside crisp orchard fruit and citrus. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier lead the way, though you'll also find a few blends that go their own way.
Whether you're looking for something to open on a summer evening, a bottle for a celebration or a serious alternative to Champagne, this is where to start.
