Italy

Italy makes wine in every one of its twenty regions, and few countries can match its sheer variety. Hundreds of indigenous grapes, many grown almost nowhere else, give Italian wine a character all of its own: bright acidity, savoury depth and a natural instinct for the dinner table.

In the north, Piedmont’s Nebbiolo gives us Barolo and Barbaresco, the Veneto brings Amarone, Valpolicella and Soave, and Alto Adige turns out some of the country’s freshest whites. Tuscany is the home of Sangiovese in all its guises, from Chianti Classico to Brunello di Montalcino and the Super Tuscans. Further south, look out for volcanic whites from Campania, ripe Primitivo from Puglia and the elegant Nerello Mascalese of Etna.

Whether you are after a weeknight pasta partner or something to lay down, filter by region, grape or style to find your next favourite.
