What makes a wine vegan?
Before bottling, many wines go through a process called fining, which removes tiny particles and helps the wine look clear and bright. Traditionally, this has used animal-derived products such as egg whites, gelatine, casein (a milk protein) or isinglass (from fish). Vegan wines are either fined with plant or mineral-based alternatives, such as pea protein or bentonite clay, or left unfined altogether, allowing time and gravity to do the work naturally.
