Sweet vanilla and coconut from American oak over dried strawberry, fig and a little balsamic lift. With time in bottle the fruit has turned savoury and the tannins soft and dusty, leading to leather and tobacco leaf on the finish. Mature, complex and drinking beautifully now.
Tempranillo from Familia Martínez Bujanda, making wine in Rioja since 1889. As a Gran Reserva, it has spent at least two years in American oak and a further three in bottle before release.
Roast lamb is the obvious partner, but try it with Manchego, jamón or grilled chorizo.
