Vermouth

Vermouth is an aromatised wine, fortified and infused with a blend of botanicals that traditionally includes wormwood, which gives the drink its name from the German “Wermut”. Styles range from crisp, dry vermouths, long associated with France, to rich and bittersweet rosso, a hallmark of Italian tradition, alongside softer bianco and fresh rosé versions. Essential in classics such as the Martini, Negroni and Manhattan, good vermouth is just as rewarding served simply over ice with a slice of citrus or a splash of soda.
