Ameztoi

Ameztoi is a family winery on the coastal cliffs of Getaria, Basque Country, led by seventh-generation winemaker Ignacio Ameztoi. Farming 20 hectares, they craft vibrant Getariako Txakolina wines from native Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Beltza grapes, known for zippy acidity, low alcohol, and natural spritz. Their cult-favourite Rubentis rosé—a pioneering co-ferment of both grapes—revives the traditional claret style, setting the gold standard for Basque rosé.

Basque Country

The Basque Country, located in northern Spain, is a unique wine region renowned for its distinctive and high-quality offerings. The region benefits from a temperate maritime climate with abundant rainfall and mild temperatures, influenced by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. The region is particularly famous for its txakoli (or chacolí), a traditional, lightly sparkling white wine made primarily from the Hondarrabi Zuri grape. Txakoli is known for its fresh, crisp acidity, green apple notes, and slight effervescence. The region also produces notable reds, including those made from Hondarrabi Beltza, which are typically light, fruity, and aromatic.
