Description

A medium-bodied red wine produced from the Mencia grape variety in the Bierzo region of north-west Spain. The nephew of the legendary Raúl Pérez, César Marquéz is one of the most promising young winemakers in the Bierzo region. For his own project, started in 2015, he is exploring the possibilities of a Burgundy-inspired classification system with Mencia-based wines in Bierzo. Parajes is his `regional` wine and includes a small percentage of Alicante Bouschet. Bright, concentrated red and black fruit notes combine with liquorice, black pepper and lavender in this great-value medium-bodied red.

Cesar Marquez

Young winemaker César Márquez has deep family roots in the Bierzo region. His introduction to winemaking was via uncle Raul (Pérez). And as an apprenticeship has worked in the family wineries, and spent time in Mendoza with the Michelini brothers. For his own project, started in 2015, he is exploring the possibilities of a Burgundy-inspired classification system in Bierzo. He works a number of parcels of over 100 year old bush vines around Valtuille de Abajo. The winemaking in all his reds is quite similar, aiming to express the origin of the grapes over the winemaking process.

Castilla Y Leon

Castilla y León, located in north-central Spain, is a prominent wine region known for its rich history and diverse wine offerings. It benefits from a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters, which, along with varied soil types, creates ideal conditions for viticulture.
The area is especially renowned for its robust reds, particularly those made from Tempranillo and Garnacha, which produce complex wines with rich fruit flavours and notable aging potential. It is also known for its whites, including those from Verdejo and Godello, offering fresh, aromatic profiles with crisp acidity.
Historically, Castilla y León has been a significant wine-producing area since ancient times, with a rich heritage that includes the renowned Ribera del Duero and Rueda DOs.
